Among the traditional pieces collected from pre-Columbian burials, we should mention this grey stone mask with red decorations on the cheeks. It belongs to the Selen culture (Catamarca). It is 29.5 centimetres high (Museo Calchaqui, Catamarca province). - 1973

During the conquest of South America, the Spaniards brought with them plant species that the Indians of the continent did not know yet: wheat, rye, barley, etc. The introduction of these plants went hand in hand with the introduction of new working methods. In the large estancias, the machine made its appearance. On the other hand, everywhere else, the farmers still used old techniques, which is why we have some very beautiful scenes, on a human scale.
