Another view of the Andes! In the Tierra Templada – the climatic zone of the Northern Andes ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 metres – the lowland rainforest gives way to the tropical mountain forest. Thickets of bamboo, tree ferns and a lush undergrowth of leafy plants make it impenetrable without a machete. Added to this is the abundance of epiphytes and orchids growing on all the trees. The Cattleya, which comes in numerous species, is considered one of the most beautiful.
