In the rural and semi-arid regions of Rajasthan, water is an extremely scarce resource. It is a traditional, often arduous task for women and young girls to walk for miles every day to wells or water points to provide for their families. The containers are balanced directly on the head using a small, ring-shaped cloth pad (called an indhoni), leaving the hands free whilst walking. The girl wears traditional jewellery such as necklaces and a discreet nose ring. - Lathi - 1990
