Description

Card games played in public spaces are an integral part of everyday social life in Udaipur, the ‘City of Lakes’. Older men in particular often meet in the afternoon to play cards together. Popular spots include shady corners on pavements, temple steps or small forecourts in the old town. These gatherings are often lively and convivial. Many of the men here also wear traditional Rajasthani turbans and simple white clothing, which makes the scene very characteristic of the region. - 1990
