SAHAR ART RUPESTRE
Maximilien Bruggmann was a Swiss photographer who travelled extensively in Africa from 1957 onwards, particularly to the Sahara and the Sahel, but also to North and South America and Asia. Together with Henri-J. Hugot, he led several archaeological expeditions in the Sahara, the Sahel and Mauritania. However, he was also particularly interested in the prehistoric art of the region, especially the rock paintings and engravings. These works of art are important historical testimonies that shed light on the social structures and everyday life of people at a time when the Sahara was still green and populated. As the photographic author of more than sixty books, Maximilien Bruggmann has one of the richest and most comprehensive iconographic collections of Saharan rock art.
