Description

  • Foto Number: SAH-438

The former settlement of Djado is an oasis town in the north-east of the Ténéré Desert, which is part of the Sahara, on the south-western edge of the Djado plateau. It is the north-easternmost municipality of Niger. The settlements in the municipal area are the three villages of Chirfa, Séguédine and Yaba. Almost all around the rocky hill of Djado, which ends in steep cliffs to the west, there are pools fed by underground springs, ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Heading south from Djado, you reach the Kaouar valley. To the west, the gravel desert of the Ténéré leads to the Aïr Mountains. - Niger - 1975
