Description

  • Foto Number: ARG-176

During the conquest of South America, the Spaniards brought with them plant species that the Indians of the continent did not know yet: wheat, rye, barley, etc. The introduction of these plants went hand in hand with the introduction of new working methods. In the large estancias, the machine made its appearance. On the other hand, everywhere else, the farmers still used old techniques, which is why we have some very beautiful scenes, on a human scale. Peasants fanning porrotos (white beans) growing in the Sierra de Zapata (Catamarca). - 1973
